Division One
The Division One champions are Rec. They made sure by beating Eight Ash Green 1-0 thanks to a Brian Bright penalty. Railway Tavern surprisingly upset Monkwick by the odd goal in three Carter and Ratcliffe getting the goals.

Division Two
In Division Two QB Monarchs virtually ended Blackthorn's promotion chances after their 4-2 Sunday success. Live and Let Live are now favourites to go up with the Monarchs. In a see saw match they pipped Moler Res by 4-3. Midway through the second half they appeared to have the match sewn up but when Moler introduced sub. Edgar Rumney the tide changed and Moler fought back to level at 3-3. In the closing stages Moler keeper Nobbs made a hash of an attempted clearance which let in an oncoming opponent who got the winner.

Woods are making a last desperate bid to escape relegation and assisted their passage with an odd goal in three win over Lord Denmans.

A Mel Hughes hat trick gave Eastgates a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kings Arms and on recent form the pub side can hardly be written off as relegation candidates. In a predictable draw Benhams and Boxted shared eight goals. Scorers for Benhams were Laitt (2), Minter and Eales with Bowles (2), King & Graves replying.

Division Three
Sound Attenuators clinched the title with a resounding 16-0 victory over relegation doomed 36th Command. However all credit must be given to the Army boys. They played the entire match with eight men!

Division Four
As expected Rose and Crown have taken the divisional championship. They sealed matters with an 8-0 victory over Mersea. Mayhew and Fincham both netted hat tricks and Bird notched the other two.

Ardleigh virtually put paid to White Hart's promotion chances with a creditable 2-0 win over pub men. The scorers were Braybrook and Sadler.

Division Five
With Marquis without a fixture Live and Let Live had a chance to narrow the gap at the top but the useful Blackthorn second team held them to a 2-2 draw.

Coopers Arms, following their ine 4-0 victory over Paxmans Club Wanderers are now in a good challenging position to take the championship as they have tey to play Marquis.

Elmstead recorded a 4-0 victory over Nig Banda's second string their goals coming from Chapman, Gregory, Walsh and Theobald. At the bottom end of the table Great Tey and St Martins fought out a 2-2 draw with the Tey equaliser coming from luckless St Martin's defender M.Kettle.

Blackthorn ..... 2
QB Monarchs .. 4

With both sides eager to win - Monarchs to avenge an earlier 3-1 defeat and Rovers needs the points in their runners up bid - this game turned out to be a credit to Sunday League football.

Both teams gave a fine display of skilled attacking football and there was no one bad foul. Blackthorn were the first to attack and Warner had to save low shots from Sestak and Fella before, against the run of play Monarchs took the lead. Wheeler looking for Death chipped a loose ball into the box and Brian Culham controlled in with his hand. Bennett gave Curtis no chance from the spot.

A great 30 yard shot from Winter clipped the crossbard before a good right wing run by Death who rounded two defenders saw Hersant head his cross home for the second goal.

Rovers came back shortly before the break, Sestak and McQuiod worked the ball down the left before the former crossed low for Ennew to drive a low shot just inside the far post.

Warner denied Rovers an equaliser when he brought off a splendid full length diving save to hold a Sestak shot. monarchs scored a fine third goal Winter taking a Dunn pass and mesmerising four defenders before rounding the keeper and scoring from an acute angle.

Rovers pulled back another goal through a Taylor header but Monarchs had the last word ten minutes from time. Death, Winter and Wheeler all combined to send Bennett through.

In a last ditch effort Ennew hit a tremendous 15 yard volley but Warner made a breathtaking save that had even the Rovers players applauding.

Shock cup tie result was the defeat of Moler by Eight Ash Green. Seifers opened the scoring early on and then clinched it with a second late goal.
In the league, Division Three, Sound Attenuators, already assured of the title beat Telecomms 5-4 and have a three-point margin to spare.

British Rail in Division Four keep up the chase for runners up spot alongside NEETC and White Hart. In Division Five the 4-0 defeat suffered by Live and Let Live Res against Blackthorn Res. put paid to the pub side's runner-up hopes.

ROSE & CROWN 4, BLACKTHORN ROVERS 3

Rose & Crown looked a very shaky side at the outset of this Sunday League Cup-tie. After 25 minutes they were two goals downwhen Blackthorn's Ray Sestak and Roger Ennew netted - the latter from the spot.
But despite fielding a weakened team and facing a second division line up. Fourth Division Rose & Crown rallied and by half time they were level through Mick Fincham and Mervyn Easey.

The second half saw Mick Bird put the home side in the lead but a fine on target angled shot from Roy Sestak soon brought the Rovers back in line.

Blackthorn then came under constant pressure and eventually they went down to another Bird goal, but without doubt the hero of the Rose & Crown side was their goalkeeper John Arnold who saved a penalty from Ennew.

Division One
New champions Rec. completed their season with a fine 6-2 victory over Moler whose troubles started before the match, for at kick-off time their goalkeeper had failed to turn up. But the gap was well bridged by popular Bernie Sanach, the club secretary and although beaten six times he gave quite an accomplished display, especially when dealing with a Bright special at the foot of the post.

Division Two
Live and Let Live maintained their promotion hopes with a 7-1 win over Lord Denman. Scorers for the Live were Kelvin Llewellyn (4) and Ken Burton (3).

Woods are continuing their fight against relegation and picked up two more points with a fine 4-2 victory over Eastgate.

Blackthorn with a 3-0 victory over Boxted and Moler Res with a 4-0 victory over Gt Tey, still keep in touch with the Live and Let Live and should the pub's side lose a match either of these two teams could get second place.

Division Four
As expected, Rose & Crown beat Groom Daniels 4-2 and still remain unbeaten this season. Goal scorers were, for Rose & Crown, Mayhew (2), Bird and Brooks with Blyth and Curtis replying for Groom Daniels.

NEETC handed the much improved Ardleigh a 5-0 hiding through goals by Neish (2), Seaman, Hands and Barnard. The College team now seem certain to finish runners-up.
Hitcham surprised the British Rail team and beat them by the odd goal in three.

Luckless Turner Village already doomed to the fifth division next season sustained yet another massive defeat, this week Stockwell beat them to the tune of 13-1.

Division Five
Top of the table Marquis shared the points with Coopers Arms following their 1-1 draw but seem assured of the championship.
The second place could however go to one of the three teams, Coopers Arms, Live and Let Live Res.

Although they are now the outsiders following their 5-1 defeat at the hands of Elmstead and Blackthorn Res who thanks to some good results of late come into the reckoning.

At the foot of the table St Martin obtained a useful point by holding Paxmans and Nig Banda Res beat fellow strugglers Affair by 3-1.
