SUNDAY LEAGUE CUP FINAL: SEMI-FINALS

Finalists for the League Cup on Sunday May 6, are the Live and Let Live and the holders Monkwick. In the semi-finals on Sunday Live and Let Live sent Rose and Crown (Dedham) to their first defeat of the season with an odd goal in seven victory while Monkwick accounted for Eight Ash Green by three clear goals. The matches were played at the Technical College Ground Spring Lane.

Live and Let Live opened the scoring when Kelvin Llewellyn headed home a well flighted Ian Vandermark corner. However, within minutes Rose and Crown were on terms when following a goal mouth melee the persistence of Tom Slocombe forced the ball home.

Shortly after half time Llewellyn increased the lead with a snap shot from close in and then a long range effort from full back Paul Willis, with the assistance of a strong wind completely decieved keeper Arnold to make it three.

The second half opened with the Rose and Crown doing most of the attacking but they were unableto penetrate the well organised Live and Let Live defence.

Midway through the half, goalkeeper Arnold made a hash of collecting a simple back pass and let in Ken Barton who had the easiest of tasks in netting to make the score 4-1.

All seemed lost for the Rose and Crown but they continued to hammer away at the Live goal and 15 minutes from the end Dave Mahew reduced the deficit with a well taken shot.

With eight minutes left, goalkeeper Dave Plumb was unable to hold a well taken free kick which led to Mick Fincham forcing the ball home.

The final stages was one way traffic but Vandermark, who had gone back to help his overworked defence stood out and must take the credit for keeping the rampant opposition forwards at bay.

Monkwick upset the form book in defeating Eight Ash Green, who had previously beaten Moler. They took the lead with a first minute penalty and increased this in the last minute of the first half.

Second half play was even but shortly before the end Monkwick put the issue beyond all doubt.
