The 25 Colchester Sunday League Cup ties produced 168 goals. Robert's Bar led the way with their 14-0 drubbing of Manningtree Rovers and Gray claimed five. He was the day's top marksman in the competition.

Old Heath Rec pasted Real 89 12-1 with Wolley netting four and a cracker of a tie between Colne Hammers and Marschino Rovers went to extra time before the former came through 8-6. Welsh got a hat-trick for them and Briggs did likewise for Maraschino.

Colchester League sides Monkwick and Blackheath will contest the area final of the Essex Sunday Junior Trophy after scoring clear-cut wins at the weekend.

Monkwick put paid to Clacton League outfit Wix Sports 5-0 with Steve Doig hitting a hat-trick. Garnham and an own goal made up the total. And fourth division Blackheath overcame second division St Martin's by three clear goals with Smodicks, Hardy and Farthing doing the damage.

The big match in the first division predictably turned out to be a tight affair with Gaslights defeating Tey Lion 3-2. Goals by Barton and J.Farthing saw Dog and Pheasant home 2-0 against Wormingford.

The day's top marksman was Vic Preston of Drury Arms Reserves who finished with a double hat-trick as his side beat fourth division opponents Maraschino Rovers 9-1.

Strikers in the lower divisions of Colchester Sunday League enjoyed themselves. Bristow of Rowhedge Reserves went nap in his side's 9-1 fifth division win over Philips and Dowman had a similar haul as Colchester Telecom hit Manningtree Rovers for six without reply in division six.

Swinn of Boxted Reserves finished with four of his side's goals in a 7-0 fourth division romp against Royal London Reserves.
