Three players had a bag of four goals in the Colchester Sunday League Cup second round ties.

But the day's individual honours belonged to division six marksman McGowan of Colchester Rangers who finished with a double hat-trick in his side's 14-1 demolition of luckless Manningtree Rangers.

The four goal men were Chris Matthews of Q's who hammered Cambridge Arms 9-1, Jon Daughters of AFC Pegasus who beat division one rivals Boxted Wanderers 7-0 and McIntyre of Donkey and Buskin who saw off Hospital Rangers by five clear goals.

Monkwick, who are well on course to land the Colchester Sunday League second division championship - they have dropped only one point in eight outings - stormed to the Essex Junior Trophy area title when they beat fourth division rivals Blackheath 3-0 at Clairmont Road with Doig, Ward and an opponent making up the total.

They now go through to the last eight of the competition.

Sunday League first division table toppers Dog and Pheasant showed their mettle when hammering Dedham Sports 5-0 with Barton (2), Glen Matthews, Farthing and Clark netting.

Division four will clash with division three in the Colchester Sunday League's Terry Martin Trophy final after wins for Drury Arms Reserves and Tey Lion Reserves semi-final.

Terry Gill (2), Beric Stephens, Gary Fisher and Neal Sealey were on target for Drury in their 5-2 victory over Brick and Tile Res and Hunt, Line and Brown saw Tey Lion home by a 3-1 margin against Robert's Bar Res.

However there was plenty of consolation for Robert's Bar as their first team advanced in the League Cup with a 4-1 win against first division Mersea United, courtesy of goals from Storey (2) and Clark (2). Mersea's man on the mark was Watson.

Another first division outfit to bite the dust was Wormingford who went down 4-2 to fifth division Flag.

Jeff Welsh (2), Lee Musto and Mark Oast were the men who applied the knockout blow and all Wormingford were left with was consolation goals by Harris and Evans.

Gaslights won 3-0 away Pegasus thanks to goals from Tommy Scott, Robin Reid and Sean Duffett.

And Gunners beat Newtown by the odd goal in three, Pearce and Bennett each finding the net for the winners.

Continuing the theme of giant-killing, Royal London, the early season pace-makers in division one, were pipped 3-2 by fourth division U's for whom Diss grabbed a brace and Lloyd was also on target. McGregor and Morgan replied.
